About this event

During this collaborative session, Dr Sara Wells, Mary Lyon Centre (MLC) Director and members of the team from MRC Harwell Institute (MRC) will take us on a virtual tour of the building and facilities whilst sharing details of key projects and news.

We will be introduced to the Mary Lyon facility and training centre, Advance at MRC Harwell, followed by Owen Sansom, Network Director who will give us an overview of the National Mouse Genetics Network.

The MRC Harwell Institute is at the international forefront of the study of mammalian models of disease. Most human diseases have a significant genetic component. Many variants in our DNA predispose us to disease, yet our knowledge of these changes in our DNA and how they cause disease is limited. MRC use animal models to study and understand the genes that underlie diseases, from diabetes, to dementia, to deafness.

Following the presentations and tours, there will be a live Q&A opportunity and breakout networking facilitated by our MRC Harwell colleagues:

  • Dr Sara Wells, MLC Director
  • Dr Martin Fray, Head of Biological Resources
  • Dr Lydia Teboul, Head of Molecular and Cellular Biology
  • Dr Michelle Stewart, Scientific Manager
  • Mr Mark Gardiner, Head of Operations
  • Mr Owen Sansom, Network Director

Throughout the event there will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions, offer your thoughts or reach out to your campus colleagues via the chat feature, so, pop the kettle on, slice a piece of your favourite home bake and join us for a fascinating session!

Usually hosted by different campus organisations, Connect Harwell’s bi-monthly events are open to all campus organisations and sectors, providing a central forum to network with colleagues from the 200+ companies and facilities spread across the site, our March event is virtual to adhere to current social distancing restrictions.

Whether you can join us or not, please invite colleagues to sign up and also feel free to invite any contacts you may have from other campus-located organisations that you work with.

The event is brought to you by Harwell Campus and STFC in partnership. The session will be recorded.

We look forward to welcoming you and/or your colleagues to the Connect Harwell online event.
